The Hispanic Issues Section has continued to grow and take part in important conversations affecting its community through the hard work of its officers, council members, and friends. The section has hosted networking mixers and strengthened relationships with local Hispanic bar associations across the state—a mixer this summer with Hispanic bar associations in Dallas and Fort Worth at a Texas Rangers game was a great success. A CLE in April focused on educating members on recent legal developments and informing them about the legislative process. In the section’s continued effort to champion the Hispanic community, it also has made great strides in its service project on fighting notario fraud in Texas. The section established a coalition with nonprofits, private attorneys, governmental agencies, and others in Houston to create informational materials for immigrant communities and to develop an attorney toolkit and training to enable private attorneys to represent and assist, victims of predatory notario fraud.
